Student Health Services offers the Flu Vaccine to students, faculty, and staff beginning in September at a charge of $20.  Injections are given Monday through Friday 7am-1pm.  If you have never received a Flu Vaccine, please call 304-336-8049 or e-mail cbennington@westliberty.edu in order to make an appointment during physician hours.

Flu Prevention

Flu season begins in the fall and usually peaks in January or February.  Your best protection against getting influenza is by getting a Flu Vaccine.  The flu is spread by coming into contact with tiny moisture droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze.  If you are near someone who is sick and you breathe in these moisture droplets, you can get sick.  You can also get the flu by touching surfaces contaminated with the flu virus and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Other measures to take to avoid getting the flu include washing your hands often and always before eating.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  Stay home from work or school if you are sick, and avoid close contact with others who are sick.

If you catch the flu make sure you get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids, gargle with warm salt water to soothe a scratchy throat, try medications such as Tylenol, cough suppressants, and decongestants to help relieve symptoms.  Flu symptoms should get better with a few days of home care.  If symptoms get worse or you develop difficulty breathing call your health care provider.
